The best pickleball paddles for intermediate players

The best pickleball paddle for intermediate players is the 11SIX24 Pegasus Power 2, because its sweet spot scored 100 out of 100, the biggest of any paddle I've tested, and it's $199.99 with code STSPICKLEBALL.

These are the 10 paddles I'd move up to once you've outgrown your beginner paddle. At this level you want the power and pop to come up while you keep as big a sweet spot and as much control as you can, and you want as much spin as you can get, because nobody wants less spin at any level. Each card tells you who the paddle is for and who should skip it.

Why it's here and who it's for

If you want more pace without giving up the forgiveness you're used to, this is the paddle I'd move up to. The Pegasus Power 2 scored 100 out of 100 for sweet spot, which is the biggest of any paddle I've tested. It's also one of only two paddles I've tested that score 90 or higher for pop, spin and sweet spot at the same time, and it has more pop and a bigger sweet spot than the other one. It's moderately firm, but not as stiff as a Bread & Butter Loco, and it's really stable when you miss the center. The pace also tracks your swing, so the ball doesn't jump off the face when you don't expect it. Owners have reported that it gives them easy power with control and spin in one paddle.

Who should skip it: Skip it if you want reach, because at 15.8 inches it's the shortest paddle on this list.

    Why No. 1

It's No. 1 because nothing on this list forgives more, and it still hits like a power paddle. Next to the J2CR Crystal Blue at No. 2, the Pegasus has a clearly bigger sweet spot and hits a little harder, with about the same control and spin. The J2CR costs $24.49 less, and the Pegasus is $199.99 with code STSPICKLEBALL.

Why it's here and who it's for

If you still win most of your points at the kitchen, this is where I'd start. The J2CR Crystal Blue scored 75 out of 100 for control, which is the most on this list, and only one hybrid I've tested has a bigger sweet spot. Spin is a real strength too, since only nine paddles I've tested spin faster than its 2,375 RPM. The Crystal Blue coating makes it a little stiffer than the raw carbon J2CR, but it's still more plush than most durable grit paddles, and its sweet spot feels bigger than theirs. Just know the 5.375 inch handle is tight for a two-handed backhand, and the Long Handle at No. 8 is the same paddle with a 6 inch handle.

Who should skip it: Skip it if you want easy power on your drives, because its power score of 81 is the lowest on this list.

    Why No. 2

The Pegasus above it forgives clearly more and hits a little harder, but the J2CR keeps clearly more control than the Ultré Power 2 below it, and that control helps you more until your soft game can handle the Ultré's extra power. The J2CR is $175.50 with code STS10, which is $24.49 less than both of them.

Why it's here and who it's for

This is the pick once your soft game is ready for more pace, and it's one you can keep when you move up, since it's also No. 3 on my advanced list. The Ultré Power 2 scored 94 out of 100 for power, which is the most on this list, and only eight paddles I've tested spin faster than its 2,387 RPM. 11SIX24 put it out in June 2026 as the newest shape in its Power 2 line, with a flat top and no taper, and it's steadier on mishits than the Vapor Power 2. It's moderately firm, and it's poppy on short strokes, so soft shots need a light touch. Owners have reported that the pop and drive power still feel controllable.

Who should skip it: If your resets and drops still pop up, hold off on this one, since nothing on this list has less control than its 58.

    Why No. 3

Next to the J6CR Crystal Blue at No. 4, the Ultré hits a little harder and has a steadier face on mishits. The J6CR has clearly more control and costs $24.49 less. The Ultré is $199.99 with code STSPICKLEBALL.

Why it's here and who it's for

If you want an elongated, this is the one I'd get at this level. Elongated paddles usually give up a lot of forgiveness and control for their power, but the J6CR Crystal Blue keeps far more of both. Only two elongateds I've tested have a bigger sweet spot, and the J6CR's control score of 69 out of 100 is far above the 45 a typical elongated scores for control. It also measured 2,424 RPM, and only two paddles I've tested spin faster. It's a bit stiffer than the raw carbon J6CR, but you still get a little of that Honolulu softness compared to most power paddles. Owners have reported it became their main paddle because it gives them power and spin while keeping control.

Who should skip it: Skip it if you still miss the center a lot, because its sweet spot of 72 is the smallest on this list.

Honolulu sells it in numbered pre-order batches, and on October 14, 2026, batch 12 was sold out and batch 13 was set to ship November 13, 2026.

    Why No. 4

Next to the Boomstik Widebody at No. 5, it's a real trade. The Boomstik forgives far more, but the J6CR spins far more and costs $157.50 less, with about the same power and control. It sits below the Ultré Power 2 because the Ultré hits a little harder with a steadier face. The J6CR is $175.50 with code STS10.

    5. ControlB70tied 35th

Why it's here and who it's for

If you play USA Pickleball sanctioned events, this is the widebody I'd get. The Boomstik Widebody scored 98 out of 100 for sweet spot, and only one paddle I've tested beats it, the Pegasus Power 2, which is UPA-A only. So no USA Pickleball approved paddle forgives more than this one. It's firm and stiff for a foam paddle, with that loud, hollow crack the Boomstik is known for. It's also very poppy at the kitchen, so dinks take some precision until you adapt, but that instant pop makes it really strong on counters and speed-ups. And it comes with a lifetime warranty.

Who should skip it: Pick this one if you play USA Pickleball events and want the lifetime warranty, because if you don't, the Pegasus Power 2 gives you more for $133.01 less.

    Why No. 5

Both paddles just above it spin more and cost less. Next to the EPP Turbo Widebody at No. 6, the Boomstik has a clearly bigger sweet spot and a handle with room for two hands, but the Turbo hits a little harder for $233.01 less. The Boomstik Widebody is $333, and Selkirk's code INF-STSPICKLEBALL adds a gift card instead of lowering the price.

Why it's here and who it's for

This is how you get real pace for $99.99 with code STSPICKLEBALL. Only one widebody I've tested hits harder than the EPP Turbo Widebody, which scored 91 out of 100 for power. It's also one of only three paddles I've tested that score 85 or higher for power, pop and sweet spot, and it's the cheapest of the three by $70. It's on the stiff side for a foam paddle, in the same family as the Bread & Butter Loco, and it has plenty of pop at the kitchen. Enhance builds weight into the sides of the frame, so it's stable on mishits right out of the box. Just know the 5.3 inch handle is tight for a two-handed backhand.

Who should skip it: Skip it if spin is a priority, because its 2,284 RPM is about the same as the middle of all the paddles I've tested.

    Why No. 6

Next to the Vapor Power 2 at No. 7, the power is even, but the Turbo has a clearly bigger sweet spot and a little more control for $100 less. The Vapor spins more, though. The EPP Turbo Widebody sits below the Boomstik Widebody because the Boomstik's sweet spot is clearly bigger and its handle has room for two hands.

Why it's here and who it's for

This is the Power 2 shape for players who win with fast hands. The Vapor Power 2 scored 91 out of 100 for power, and only 11 paddles I've tested spin faster than its 2,374 RPM. It swings light for a power hybrid, so counters, speed-ups, flicks and rolls are its strengths. It's moderately firm with some give, so it's softer than a Loco or a Boomstik. The pop is above average, though, so soft shots need a little touch. Owners have reported strong spin and grip on their drives, serves and soft shots.

Who should skip it: Skip it if your soft game is still loose, because its control score of 65 is the third lowest on this list.

    Why No. 7

The Ultré Power 2 at No. 3 is the steadier Power 2 hybrid on mishits, and the EPP Turbo Widebody above it forgives clearly more for $100 less. Next to the J2CR Long Handle at No. 8, the Vapor hits a little harder, and the Long Handle spins more with a little more control. It's $199.99 with code STSPICKLEBALL.

Why it's here and who it's for

This is the J2CR Crystal Blue for players who hit a two-handed backhand. You get the same head and Crystal Blue surface with a 6 inch handle, at the same price. It also measured 2,467 RPM, which is the most spin of any paddle I've tested. Next to the standard J2CR, it hits a little harder and spins more, and it actually swings a little lighter. Both paddles are the same overall length, so the face is a little shorter, but the sweet spot still scored about the same. It's really quick in the hands, so it's strong in hands battles and on counters. Owners have reported it quickly became their main paddle because of the feel and the spin.

Who should skip it: Skip it if you hit a one-handed backhand, because the standard J2CR Crystal Blue at No. 2 has the longer face for the same $175.50.

It's sold on the same Honolulu listing as the J2CR Crystal Blue, as the Extended J2 handle option.

    Why No. 8

It's the J2CR Crystal Blue from No. 2 with a longer handle, so it sits here as the two-hander's version. The Vapor Power 2 above it hits a little harder. Next to the ArmorGrit Hybrid at No. 9, the Long Handle spins far more for $75.51 more, and the rest is about the same. It's $175.50 with code STS10.

Why it's here and who it's for

This is the hybrid I'd get for $99.99 with code STSPICKLEBALL, and it's brand new. The MPP Turbo ArmorGrit Hybrid measured 2,354 RPM, which is the most spin of any paddle I've tested that's under $100 with my codes. It also scored 73 for control, which ties it for second most on this list. It's the same build as the original MPP Turbo, and the only change is Enhance's new ArmorGrit coating over the face, which is much grittier to the touch than the raw carbon original. It's a little stiffer than the original, but it still has that hollow, deep MPP sound, and it's stable on off-center hits.

Who should skip it: Skip it if you want the most pace for $100, because the EPP Turbo Widebody at No. 6 hits a little harder at the same price.

Enhance put it on sale October 5, 2026, and the original MPP Turbo Hybrid is still sold at the same price.

    Why No. 9

Next to the Barrage 4 at No. 10, it spins more and has clearly more control, with about the same power, pop and sweet spot, for $107 less. The J2CR Long Handle above it spins far more, but it costs $75.51 more.

Why it's here and who it's for

This one is on the list for its feel. The other nine paddles here lean hollow, and the CRBN TruFoam Barrage 4 is dense and solid instead, with a sharp crack on hard hits and a muted sound on soft ones. It has the lightest swing weight on this list at 106.2, so it's really fast in hands battles. It's also the one pick here you can take to both USA Pickleball and UPA-A events. The sweet spot does fall off as you get out toward the edges, though.

Who should skip it: Skip it if spin matters to you, because its 2,264 RPM is the least on this list.

CRBN has it on a store-wide sale at $229.99, down from $279.99.

    Why No. 10

Next to the ArmorGrit Hybrid above it, power, pop and sweet spot are about the same, but the ArmorGrit spins more and has clearly more control for $107 less. So the Barrage 4 is for players who want that dense feel and a light swing, or who need both approvals. It's $206.99 with code STSPICKLEBALL.

How I picked them

Five rules decide which paddles make the list and in what order.

  1. 1

I ran the same tests on every paddle, and every score on this page comes from those tests.

  2. 2

Every pick here scores at least 81 for power and at least 85 for pop.

  3. 3

Control runs from 58 to 75 on this list, because some control is what you trade for the extra pace.

  4. 4

Prices are what each brand's own store charged on October 14, 2026, with my code.

  5. 5

"Budget pick" means an Enhance Turbo under $100 with my code.

How I test every paddle

What to look for when you move up from a beginner paddle

When you move up from a beginner paddle, the big change is power and pop. The middle pick on this list scored 87 for power, compared to 68 on my beginners list, so your drives and counters come off a lot faster. You do give some forgiveness back, because the middle sweet spot drops from 90.5 on my beginners list to 80 here, and control drops from 87.5 to 70. My advanced list goes much further, down to a middle control score of 33.5.

On paper, the widebody is the best shape for an intermediate player. If you look at the 76 paddles I've tested that score 80 or more for power, the middle widebody in that group keeps a sweet spot of 86 and a control score of 71. The middle hybrid keeps a sweet spot of 73 and a control score of 57.5, and the middle elongated drops to a sweet spot of 51 and a control score of 32. The catch is that widebodies are the least popular shape. A lot of players just feel weird swinging one and would rather have the reach and smoother swing of a hybrid or an elongated. I'd rather send you to paddles you'll actually enjoy playing, so this list has 3 widebodies, 6 hybrids and the J6CR Crystal Blue as the one elongated.

Spin is the one thing everyone wants more of, at every level. The middle paddle of all the ones I've tested measured 2,263 RPM, and 7 of my 10 picks measured 2,354 RPM or more. Six of those seven use 11SIX24's HexGrit or Honolulu's Crystal Blue, and in my wear test, both of those grits lost only about 1% of their spin over 75 games.

Questions people ask

What is the best pickleball paddle for intermediate players?

The 11SIX24 Pegasus Power 2, at $199.99 with code STSPICKLEBALL. Its sweet spot scored 100 out of 100, the biggest of any paddle I've tested, so you get more pace without losing the forgiveness you're used to. If you'd rather have a hybrid, the Honolulu J2CR Crystal Blue has the most control on this list and is $175.50 with code STS10. On a budget, the Enhance EPP Turbo Widebody is $99.99 with code STSPICKLEBALL.

When should I move up from a beginner paddle?

Move up when your dinks and resets stay low and you're losing points because your drives and counters don't have enough pace. That's when more power and pop start helping you instead of hurting you. If your resets still pop up a lot, start with the J2CR Crystal Blue, because it has the most control on this list.

Should I get a widebody, a hybrid or an elongated?

On paper, a widebody, because the Pegasus Power 2 and the Boomstik Widebody have the two biggest sweet spots of any paddles I've tested. But a lot of players want more reach, and a hybrid gets you some of it with a bigger sweet spot than an elongated, so 6 of my 10 picks are hybrids. For an elongated, get the J6CR Crystal Blue, since only two elongateds I've tested have a bigger sweet spot.

Should I play a 14mm or a 16mm paddle?

For almost everyone, go 16mm. I've tested 13 paddle models that come in both, and in all 13, the 16mm had the bigger sweet spot and more control. It hit harder in 10 of them too. The 14mm had more pop in nine. The only 14mm paddle on this list is the CRBN TruFoam Barrage 4, which CRBN makes only in 14mm, and it's here for its dense feel and light swing.

Do I need a USA Pickleball approved paddle?

Only if you play USA Pickleball sanctioned events. Six of my 10 picks are UPA-A only, which are both J2CRs, the J6CR Crystal Blue and the Pegasus, Ultré and Vapor Power 2. You can take the other four to a USA Pickleball event, and those are the Boomstik Widebody, the EPP Turbo Widebody, the MPP Turbo ArmorGrit Hybrid and the TruFoam Barrage 4, which also has UPA-A approval.

Is a $100 paddle good enough for an intermediate player?

It is if you pick the right one, like the Enhance EPP Turbo Widebody at $99.99 with code STSPICKLEBALL, since no widebody you can buy right now hits harder. What you give up is spin, since it spins about the same as the middle of all the paddles I've tested. If you want a hybrid with more spin, the MPP Turbo ArmorGrit Hybrid is also $99.99 and spins the most of any paddle I've tested that's under $100 with my codes.

  • Selkirk Boomstik Elongated 16mmSelkirk Boomstik ElongatedIt's No. 1 on my advanced list and No. 2 on my Best of 2026 list. Next to the Boomstik Widebody here, it has clearly less control and a far smaller sweet spot, so it asks a lot more of your soft game.
  • Pickleball Apes Zen S+ 16.5mmPickleball Apes Zen S+It's No. 1 on my power list and No. 7 on my Best of 2026 list. Pickleball Apes sells it in pre-order batches, and on October 14, 2026, Batch 5 showed no ship date.
  • Selkirk OMNI Elongated 16mmSelkirk OMNI ElongatedIt's No. 3 on my elongated list and No. 5 on my Best of 2026 list, and it's approved by both USA Pickleball and UPA-A. Next to the J6CR Crystal Blue here, it hits a little softer and spins less, and it costs $124.50 more.
  • Enhance MPP Turbo ArmorGrit Widebody 16mmEnhance MPP Turbo ArmorGrit WidebodyIt's No. 4 on my beginners list and No. 4 on my widebody list. At the same $99.99 as the EPP Turbo Widebody here, it has a little bigger sweet spot and spins more, but it hits a little softer.
  • Volair CMD Hybrid 16mmVolair CMD HybridIt's No. 5 on my hybrid list and No. 6 on my spin list. Its power score of 79 is below every pick here, where the lowest power score is 81.

What changed

  • Rebuilt from my October 14, 2026 database after a live store check of every paddle. Paddles you can't buy anymore are gone.
  • The 11SIX24 Ultré Power 2 comes in at No. 3, and the RPM Q2 Widebody comes off to make room, which swaps a fourth widebody for a hybrid.
  • The Selkirk Boomstik Widebody moves from No. 3 to No. 5, below the Ultré Power 2 and the J6CR Crystal Blue, because the Ultré spins more and the J6CR spins far more, and both cost less with my codes.
  • The Enhance MPP Turbo ArmorGrit Hybrid replaces the original MPP Turbo Hybrid at the same $99.99 with my code, because it has a little bigger sweet spot and a little more control.
  • The Bread & Butter Loco Hybrid is off, because it's sold out at Bread & Butter and the Loco 2 Hybrid isn't on sale yet.
